I'm trying to find some peat to lower the Ph in my L-183 tank. What do you guys use and where can I find it? Is there anything I should look out for when purchasing?
Those Jiffy peat pellets are on clearance at my garden shop right now for like $2, might want to check it out since a lot of places are focusing on Christmas at this point.
A 2 cu ft bag costs about $10...it's a huge amount of peat, though. Unless you have use for it (in your yard, it makes great mulch for azaleas and other acid loving plants) I recommend getting the peat pellets. It will give you an opportunity to try out peat before getting a giant bag and then realizing maybe it's not what you want after all!
I don't know, people are using it to hatch killifish eggs so I would imagine it would be fish safe. Might not hurt to contact the manufacturer!
Like topsoil, I've never seen peat for sale in anything less than 1 cu ft or so, and that is a whole lot of peat if you don't have a yard to use it on.
I use the peat pellets. I boil them first so they're good to use. I couldn't find sphagnum peat moss in my stores so found the jiffy pellets. Must be good if it hasn't killed any of my fishes yet.
