Good plants for platy fry to hide in?

Well,a couple of suggestions. If you are setting up the tank strictly for breeding purposes,I would go with plastic plants. The reason being that when you go about the inevitable collecting and thinning out of the Platy fry,you wont have to worry about damaging the plants.Fry are good at escaping your probing net and can give a good chase. Also, you wont have to worry about caring for the plants,i.e. light and pruning. My favorite to use is plastic green cabomba. But,any fine leaved reproduction will do.However,if you do use live,I like Water Sprite(Ceratopteris thalictroides) and Hornwort(Ceratophylum demersum). But,everyone has their faves.Good luck...

i have a real green cabomba and something which is a bit like an anuba. Its not really for a breeding tank just a small community and I would like some fry to survive. :)

Unless you have some true fry gobblers, some platy fry usually always make it as long as there is even the most remote of hiding spots. In all actuality, the platy parents are usually the culprits when it comes to fry predation as they eat their own readily and with gusto...Irony... :)

I would look at some of the mosses like java, xmas etc. You can tie it to some drift wood and use a large net to scoop out fry, wood and moss all at once when you need to.
