I rescently aquired a what I think is a 33 gallon hex type tank. I have a 10 gallon freshwater and I was wondering if the new one would be a good tank for a saltwater tank. I am wanting to just have fish and live rock in it. NO coral at this time because I am new to this so I want to be careful. I am new to this so all of the help I can get will help. Also what type of fish can I put into this tank. I like a lot of color. Thanks.

Hex is not the best shape for salt water. The "standard" measure of inches of marine fish you can put in a typical fish-only tank is about 3 inches per square foot of surface area from what I've read. I'm sure you could do something but you might be rather limited by the shape of your tank.

Agreed. Hex tanks aren't really good for much, IMO. The small surface area to depth ratio means that it's challenging to keep the water oxygenated, and there really aren't many fish that do better with lots of vertical space but such limited horizontal space. Sorry. In FW, labyrinth fish, and cories, which can surface and gulp air would be a better choice than anything SW.
