Due to there not being enough space to stick a screw, I got some gorilla glue to use to hold the center brace on my daughters tank.

Has anyone ever used this stuff on anything before? Is it strong enough to withstand the forces of water pushing out on the glass?

it clains to be the strongest glue in the world, for the strongest jobs in the world.... and I would call this a strong job :)

It will glue wood to cement, and break the wood before the glue will pull off if thats any indication of its strength....

100% non-toxic.

Gorilla Glue

I have used Gorilla Glue for a center brace for my 45 gallon tank. It has been set up for about 2 months now and I have had no problems with it.

Here is the thread I posted for the DIY Center Brace.

Hope this helps.

PS. I have used this product for other things around the house as well and it seems to work great for me.

I don't know about a center brace...but I couldn't get the stuff to hold leather to rubber, though it did work to attach some broken pieces of a cement together in a mortar and pestle. Keep in mind it expands when it dries.

its clamped.

also, my brace is on the underside of the frame, since my lid fits flat over the lip, if the brace was on top, my hood wouldnt fit.

I'll keep it clamped until tomorrow morning, and see how it held up.

I have used Gorilla Glue for various aquarium projects and it works well for most.

For a center brace I would JBWeld. I much stonger joint IMHO.

Also, if you do not have room for a screw, drill a couple very small holes and drop in straight pins and then glue. Once the glue is dry trim off the extra pin.

You would be surprised how much lateral force a straight pin can hold with no gap.

you should try a plastic weld epoxy, since it actually melts the plastic and seals it together. works for me :)

The thing is, I wanted to do it, and get it done, not drag on the details like trying to find JBWeld, and then buying it, waiting for an echeck to clear, and payments to go through, then waiting for shipping.

im already done. And I will try a bit of a stress test to see if thge glue held, If it doesn't then I will try some PVC solvent cement I have..... cause I know that if it will bond the two plastics, they arent ever coming apart.

its been clamped about 12 hours now, and i just removed t he clamps.

Let me tell you, this glue has bonded the brace and frame together much better than I thuoght was even possible.

I used the smallest amount of glue, and I cant seem to pull this thing apart.
I tried pushing down on it, and pushing/pulling the glass to make it bow, and the brace has held up.... though I didnt put too much stress on the glass.

I did hear a noise, that I cant even describe, but it was kind of like a bang and a pop at the same time. the kind of noise that would be made if the glue had come apart, except there is nothing coming apart about this glue.
I believe it was some of the silicone under the frame coming apart from the glass when I pulled the brace, which i dont think is a huge problem.

is it?

this glue is nothing but amazing...... that statement may change once the tank has been used for some time.

errrr.... i just pulled off one of the sides of the brace, but with a twisting downward motion.

the other side hasnt seemed to suffer the same problem. So once this is reglued, and properly, it should easily holding the pulling stress.

hate when that happens. tell me how it goes. I have to fix a side on my sisters tank eventually and might use this.
