Got My First Betta! Any Advice?

I have 8 Betta's here at work, hehe, yes I love my Betta's! The biggest thing to remember, and I'm sure you know is that you can't put any other Betta's with him. But they do good with other types of fish though, platy's, guppies, mollies etc. Anouther thing about them is to keep a lid on, they will jump! KT, do have pic's of your planted tanks? I would love to see them. I just started on planted tanks. I have a 10g, heavyily planted and a 55g semi planted.
Hello:

I am curious about what you say , that you can house bettas with other kind of fishes. Can you suggest ones that you had good experiences with ?

thank you !

:eek: of course they can be kept with other fish, with the exception of males with males, males with females, male & female with gouramis and guppies.

MY FEMALE GOT STUCK TO THE FILTER LASTNIGHT, i GO HER YESTERDAY, SHE NOT REALLY EATTING AS WELL

Try this: buy the Aqua Clear sponge filter for a 70 gal cut it in half and cut a little slit in the top. Put it over the end of your intake. Helps slow down the suction and keep bettas from getting their fins caught. Doesn't look extremely pretty, but works great and is inexpensive fix.

Do you have the Whisper internal filter? Because if you do there is a switch on the bottom to change the flow. Just change it to low. As for food, I used to feed my Betta Hikari Pellets and Hikari Bloodworms and he loved them. Good luck with your Betta, they are definitely great fish.

I wouldn't feed pellets. I've never seen a betta who likes them. At Wal-Mart, there's about 50 pellets at the bottom of the betta cups, and they still starve.

really? that's all mine seem to eat (they were just plain confused by the bloodworms the other day lol). I wonder if the Wal-Mart employees were overfeeding them, that happens to us occasionally. Some new employee will dump like, 30 pellets in the cup and after the betta eats 4 I make them take out the rest of the pellets (sucks for them! haha)

Sounds like you're all set :) Betta's are awesome, so much personality and spunk (and god, 5 months ago I would have never thought I'd say that)

I actually took a bunch of pics last night after I added driftwood to my 10 gallon but now I can't find the cord to hook it up to my Computer.:angryfire:

So today i woke up and my new betta was stuck to the filter. Turned that down (found the switch to turn it on super low ((worked like a charm))), put some food in, he still wasnt eating. I held a mirror up just to see what he would do. And guess what! He swam away, and protected his food! Started eating the dried Hikari blood worms! Has been eating them since! Tonight, he had a bubble nest!!! Only had him for over 24 hours, he was almost dead this morning, and had a bubble nest by the evening! amazing.

awww =P i remember my first betta.

i miss my Squishy. ;-;
