I have been reading alot of stocking options, or changes for tanks, and lots of people, think or have had bad experiences with gouramis. I can personally say that all my gouramis, and I have a few, are very happy. They are not mean or aggressive toward any of my other fish, and I have had many different knids and types. Please don't hate gouramis, because I think they are a wonderful fish.:thud:

I don't think that people hate gouramis. Persoanlly I think they are among some of the most beautiful of fresh water fish.

Its just that they can be aggresive and territorial. I think that most posters are just letting people know what they can expect from them.

Fish can all have different personalities among the same species.

Be happy that you can have a tank full of some pretty fish.

dwarf and pearl goruamis are acctually pretty cool fish. the same goes for kissing gouramis.

other gouramis like blue gouramis can be aggressive towards other fish though. even more peaful gouramis are territorial and aggressive towards other gouramis though.

I agree entirely. Folks tend to err on the side of caution (myself included) when giving advice on stocking. I have two Gourami setups (2 Male dwarves in a 29, and 5 Blue + 1 Gold in my 75) that probably shouldn't work, but they do because as stated fish each have their own personalities. But, if someone asked if they should get 2 Male Dwarves or put 6 in a 75G now, I'd tell them "heck no" even though it CAN work.

Bethkira, we love our gouramis. :hearts: We have a male dwarf and 2 females. I couldn't imagine the tank without them. Cute little fish that are full of life. Not to mention they don't bother the other fish. ;)
Keep enjoying your gouramis. I think you'll find many others that appreciate them too. :)

I recently picked up gourami and are the perfect introduction to my tank. I must have a good bunch because they are extremely peaceful (odd according to reports) with the other fish in the setup as well with eachother. I can watch them swim next to eachother with no worries. Beautiful fish.

I love gourmis to but unfortunately my blue gourmis doesnt get along with my angelfish and I love my angelfish. I would give any of you my gourmi due to the fact that I rather have the angelfish personally but since there is no way for you to get the fish I guess I will have to return it to Pet Smart. I really like how the blue gourmis can change color I think that neat.

i love my gouramis, though im keeping an eye on them i may ahve to back and exchangeh te fish but its great little things theyre doingi n my tank though

I met a Giant Gourami today, and he was very niice! Very cute, I wanted to take him home, unforuntly I don't think he would've been happy in my 10 gallon although! My 10 gallon would've given him more room then the room he had at the store! Felt so bad for him, he was very cute, following me side to side!

I love them, I have 3 big blues, one honey gold, 2 mating paradise, and 2 red dwarf, and they are all wonderful fish, big bright and fun. Sometimes maybe they can be mean, but I love them and have had nothing but good experiences with them. ANd a little note for computerman0219 I had an angel in my tank too, and I must have been lucky becuase my gourami never bothered him. Unfortunatley he got sick and died. But gourami and angels worked for me.
