I bought 2 new fish today, a long-finned black tetra and a bleeding heart tetra and I added it to my tank that already contained a dwarf gourami and a school of smaller tetras, with 2 kuhli loaches and shrimps. I thought a gourami fish was supposed to be peaceful? I have to quarantine the gourami four times because it was chasing the two new fish and attacking them. Will the gourami get used to the new additions and tame down, or should I just get rid of it?:help:

Any new fish will be considered as intruders. That should be the explanation to its behavior. Not all dwarf gouramis are really peaceful. Most males tend to be aggressive. It depends on their personalities.

Some of the species of Gouramis can be very territorial. I have several opalines and powder-blues and all of mine are territorial. I would watch them closely and maybe just quarantine at nights and when you are not home, the gourami may start to no longer see the others as a threat.

Thanks! Should I wait 24 hours before I decide? I'm apprehensive that one of the fish might be dead by tomorrow?

Turn off the lights for 24 hours. Keep a close eye on your fish as much as possible. If all goes well, the gourami will eventually ignore them. Give them more plants for refuge.

Thank you very much!
