Gourami tankmate ideas please?

After my disastorous tank crash last week, I only have a pair of male dwarf gourami's in my 29 gallon tank. Both seem to be very, very shy and don't come out except to feed. I'm wanting to add more fish to the tank to act as dither fish and also be colorful as well. I wouldn't mind an oddball or two but I'm not sure what to get. I've got about 30 tetras in my 55 gallon tank so I don't really want any more of them in the 29 (though I do want more for the 55). Aside from that, I'm not sure what to add. Any suggestions?
 
Try a Red Shark. Or even better what i ahve Albino Red Tail. They are great, mine is abit of a bully, i think he took a snap at my groumis, but thye hit him back. Now they leave each other alone. But. they are a great fish. Just remmeber you can only get ONE (1) Red tail weather it be Albino or regular.
 
there are always cory catfish, really any small bottum dweller could make a nice contrast to you dwarfs.
 
right, the redtail catfish is the one that gets several feet long, the max size of a redtail black shark and rainbow sharks is between 4 & 6 inches. The more peaceful of the bunch is the rainbow which comes in black or albino. The differences between the redtail black shark and the rainbows are the rainbows fins are all red whereas the black shark only has the red tail and is a truer or darker black than the rainbows. A major word of caution though, if you chose the retail or the rainbow, you should provide a cave in the tank, only keep 1, avoid other like shaped fish... and oh yeah....one per tank....

have you considered how active you would want a tankmate to be if your Dwarfs hide alot? .. I recently got a Columbian shark catfish in my tank.. although the store had it named differently, this is what the picture in my book says it is. Seems to go great with my Gouramis .. 2 Kissers, 3 Golden's, 1 Moonlight in the 65G .. I would imagine in a smaller tank as much as it moves not so good an idea.

Lots of neat looking Loaches that would probably go well, and I'm not sure it's name and i've yet to find the info yet on it but I saw a all black bottomfeeder with a white stripe mid body and a funny looking elephant looking like snout that looked good in the tank at the store with the blue gourami's.

How about something to offset the color of your dwarfs? .. think of it like interior decorating :)
 
I wouldn't suggest a columbian cat as they get pretty big plus they start fresh water, then as they age, they'll need a brackish environment. Not good if you don't plan on the whole tank being brackish.
