Yesterday I noticed a small hole in the middle of the tail fin of my Dwarf Flame Gourami. He otherwise appears to be in top condition and all of his tank mates, 9 neons, 3 ottos and 3 Rosy Tetra's that all are doing fine. Water conditions are good to, 0, 0, 10, PH is about 7.5. I do water changes weekly on this 29 gallon tank. Any suggestions?

your water parameters look really good, so I don't htink you need to do anything. Clean water means healthy fish, so he should recover in no time. I've had fish tear their fins in half, and they healed completely in less than 2 days! If you're really concerned, you could add a little StressCoat or Melafix because the herbs will help with healing, but I don't think it will be necessary at all. He should be good before you even know it!

Indeed, it should heal up fine. Likely he just snagged it on something. Just be sure to watch to see that it doesn't get any bigger or show any signs of fin rot.

Jimz,
How is your gourami doing? I hate to say this but that how two of my four powder blues die. Whatever parasite that created the small hole, it eventually ate its way to the end of the tail. I treated both in a QT with meds for parasites & bacteria to no avail.

It's amazing that all four of my gouramis were healthy for two to three months, then suddenly died within two weeks.

BTW - I bought the four from three different pet stores over a four month period. So I can only assume the local population came from the same fish farm.
