Gravel Worms?

In the arms of my keeper
I cleaned out my sisters 10 gal, i emptied out 60-75% of the water that was left in there (its never completly full) and i found these little worms when i stired up the gravel, i'll admit i was not completly in the ball with this tank only b/c its not totaly mine its susposed to be the "family" tank. what are the worms from and can they hurt the fish?, there about as thin as a paper staple, and maybe 1/4 an inch long, there white, and there only out when i stir the gravel, do i have to boil the gravel???? help

Worms and things in the aquarium gravel are as natural as worms and things in the garden dirt. When fishes pick pick pick along the gravel, that's what they're after. Don't rinse the gravel with tapwater full of chlorine! There's no reason to go through a cycle. You can scrub the glass (keep it wet as you go) with water from another tank. Wash the gravel with water from another tank too.

When you're finished, let the detritus settle and gently vaccum it off the surface.

i didnt change the water b/c of them, i was just curious b/c my sensei's 55 gal has 1 inch gravel worms and we had to sifen the gravel, then we decied to boil it, and it was h3ll on his Ocars and pacu. I wasent sure b/c my sister over feeds him some times... thanks
