OKay, I have a question. I have a little 10 gallon tank with a few swordtails in it. Unfortunately my gravel color is just kinda ugly in this room. I have had the fish in the tank for a little over a month, and I think it is nicely established. What would be a safe way to change the gravel? I should have thought of this earlier, but I got the gravel of free, and thought I’d like it at the time.

Most of your bacteria is in the filter, so removing the gravel shouldn't cause too much of a problem. If you want to be safe, remove only half or so, then wait a week or two to take the other half out.

you can safely change the gravel only if you have a power filter (hangs on back of tank). if you have an under gravel filter, changing the gravel will have the effect of destroying your biofilter and thus, should only be done in stages.
