Is it common to get green coralline algae? Since I have upgraded my lighting I noticed my purple coralline algae growing on my glass with bright green right next to it. Should I try to remove it? It actually looks pretty cool to see these bright green and bright purple spots on the tank.

theres really no such think as green coraline.. its a pretty common type of algae ad the only way to remove it is to scrape it off

Do you know what type of algae it is? Is it harmful? It doens't appear to overrunning things. Its not hairy or slimy. It has the exact same appearance as my encrusting purple coralline algae except for the color difference.

I have always heard that there is green coralline algea. I believe green coralline likes bright light . . . which would explain why you are getting now with a lighting upgrade. My tank is covered with it and I like it. I don't see any reason to remove it.

Yeah, I also heard green coralline aglae exists. Thanks for putting my fears to rest. Its nice to see that someone else has it. I think its a pretty algae. It adds a nice color to the tank.

I have it too and there is green CA i like it, as long as it does not take over the red or start growing on the substrate i see no problem. The inverts may like it too.

What? am not sure where you got this information from but it is incorrect. Yes, you can have green corraline algae growth in the tank...The colours are dependant on lighting and calcium levels....you can get greens, pinks, purples, reds, browns...

well... a majority of coraline algae are a shade of red... "Colors are most typically pink or some other shade of red, but may be purple, yellow, blue or gray-green".. but i never knew they come in green.. i personally dont like green because it resembles nusance algae.. but :/.. whatever floats your boat

Ah, you got that from wikipedia right? I saw that definition too, but I have heard of people having bright orange (even seen it at the petshop) so I didn't think it had the complete information on the color variations. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't nusance algae since I liked the color (very pretty lime green in contrast to my dark purple) and wanted to keep it.

I have quite a bit of lime green coraline algae and I think it makes a nice change to the red and purple that I also have and neither seem to be taking over the other (unlike my recent slime algae!!!!)
