How much handling can a green flower pot coral take before I've killed it? I ask because I just got one today from a local reefer and when it was acclimating, it had already come way out and puffed up and was starting to open it's "blooms". I'm trying to find the perfect place for it in the tank and it's really really hard. It wants low placement, low flow and medium light and I have to put it far enough away from others that it doesn't sting them. GAH So I find myself wanting to redo the entire tank again.

SO, how much handling can the poor thing take before I kill it? Oye I REALLY don't want to redo everything, but I'm NOT happy with how it looks right now. :headshake2:

I agree with the above, especially the green ones. These corals rarely ever make it. The only ones I can recommend (only for the experienced hobbyist) are the red ones.

well, I didn't buy it. I swapped my old light to a guy for several different things and this is one of the ones he gave me. It's been in his tank for a year he said and it's still alive, so maybe it's the one that is easier to keep? The Alveopora sp. I also got a baby GBTA, a leather of some sort, a rock with some red mushrooms and a candy cane frag. :headbang2:

:o

well, the fixture was given to us with the tank, we had recently put in 2 new bulbs and new fans, but I still felt like I was getting something for nothing since I didn't have a use for the fixture anymore anyway. The anemone is the size of a quarter and you did just tell me you'd recommend them for beginners still. ;)

As for the flower pot, he offered it to me and he made it sound like it's been pretty easy for him. He hasn't even been directly feeding it. So, I thought it doesn't hurt to TRY, right? I spose I could take it to my LFS tomorrow for credit and get something easier. Something to think about.

as for the leather he gave me, it's not attached to anything, do I need to glue it down or what? It's kindof like a stem that branches into two heads. He called it a neon leather.

This guy is switching to all SPS in his tanks, that's why he's being so generous with the LPS and softies, I guess. I also bought frogspawn really cheaply from him two weeks ago.

You can certainly try them both. You might ask local reefers if they are interested in trading the flower pot if you decide otherwise. They'd probably give you a better trade I'd think. I'd love to see a photo of yours by the way.

Leathers slime so are difficult glue. You can try rubberbanding it to a rock as well as a few other temporary holds. Give it a few days and it should be attached on it's own.

Well, after more hunting around and reading different websites about the flowerpot, I got scared of killing it, so I took it in to my fave FS. The owner is going to keep it for me and see if it starts to look better again. I think it was great when I got it this morning, but I handled it too much when I was trying to find a place to put it. :wall: :uhoh: So this is what it looked like before I took it in:

I wish I'd taken a pic of it before I took it out of the bag. :( I'm rather mad at myself over this one because I know it's my fault it started looking bad. I was having a hard time finding a good spot for it and it kept tipping over on a rock and it fell to the bottom once and ugh. :wall:

However, all is not lost, my FS guy is really nice and is going to hold on to it for me in his gorgeous coral tank and he'll either give it back to me once it's looking better, if I want to attempt it again, or he'll sell it and give me a fish or credit on something else.

Also, the flowerpot appears to have left a baby behind in my tank! I found a teeny tiny ball that looks like an itty bitty version of the big one, except it was sitting in a little indention in a rock (one of the ones I tried to balance the big one on) and has all it's polyps opened and looking pretty!

Forgive the crappy quality please. My camera isn't good with macro shots. If I ever stop spending money on this hobby, I might get a new camera.

It wasn't a wasted trip to the FS! You know I couldn't leave empty handed! I had asked the owner to see if he could get a red spotted lawnmower blenny after seeing the normal one in Petco last week and then finding the red spotted one online. He already had it for me! This isn't the actual fish, but he's in my tank now and he's the cutest fish in the whole world! Errr, don't tell my Citron or my Diamond Goby I said that! :lipssealedsmilie:

Thanks for listening to me today and advising me and everything. See? I really do listen to you guys!

ummm, except for the uhhh, yah, no qt at the moment. :duh: In my defense, I had to give away my last small tank to help out a friend. I promise I'll get one soon!
