Hello,

I have always heard that Cichlids and live plants don't go well together. I recently purchased a green terror. He is about 2.5 inches now.

I am wondering if there is any kind of live plant that would be compatible with him. Does anybody have any experience with it?

Any help would be appreciated.

In my tank the cichlids seem to leave the plants along, and I have a green terror in there, the only problem is when I had cichlids in smaller tanks they killed all the plants pretty quick. You could try java fern. :idea2:

I can attest, java fern tastes horrible. Cichlids and fish in general don't bother eating it, and it can lower your nitrAte levels. Try using cotton thread to attach a few bunches of fern to driftwood or resin Petsmart decorations. The thread will dissolve eventually, but the fern will have rooted in about a month.

Amazon swords are supposed to stand up really good to them. I have a common Ivy floating in the top of my tank and my 7" Terror only hunts in it. He will not tolerate fake plants and rips them up any chance he gets. I have never tried any live plants with him. If there is something in the tank that he can move or rearrange he will. With large Cichlids like GT's I would think it would be hard to keep any real plants with them except for java fern that is seeded in something. I think my GT just doesnt like anything that gets in his way!
