hi,
can anyone tell me how to tell between a male and female green tiger barb? i would like to try breeding them, but i want to be sure i'm picking the right ones! pictures would be awesome. :)

thanks..

I've never kept them. If they are adult size, the male will be much smaller. Female barbs have big bellies.

It's much the same as the striped version of the barbs.
The nose of the males will be red/orange while the females nose will be
pale brown/beige.
Also, the red on the fins of the males will be more pronounced.

All of this applies to adults, not to young barbs.

yup male smaller and thinner and femal larger and rounded belly when adult.

you need long thin tall planted section which they will part off into and dance around and dart through but beaware they will eat their own eggs and the eggs are left alone to survive on their own, all loaches and catfish eat them to

Wow you read my mind.. I was just going to post the same question.. I read about the red nose.. which mine does....but apparently males are also meant to have a red line going up their back.. and mine dont.
Mind you its a platinum green.. so it might be slightly different.
My two normal greens have brown noses... so im hoping i have two females and one male.

It sounds like you have 2F/1M, but be aware that they do better (and are more likely to spawn) in larger groups. I never saw a red line up the back of any and had regular, green, and albinos.

The red is on the dorsal fin.

Red on the fins, yes. Red stripe down the back, no. From what I've seen...
