Green water, heavily planted tank

Thanks for the clarification, Tom. By the time I did the water testing to figure out what was going on, the elevated NH4 had been converted to high NO3. Another tank with equally high NO3 (120 ppm) did just fine. The GW episode I related above started within 12 hours of a 50% water change and the addition of a large dose potassium sulfate. Prior to that, the water was clear.

BTW, since the nasty GW episode, I've adopted a modified "Barr method" (50% weekly water change, strategic addition of macros and micros, CO2) with all my tanks. Result: Minimal algae, excellent plant growth.
