What are the best in your opinions guys.
I would love to fill in my tank more.
I hate how lame it looks. Lol.
I would love to get some moss and or ground cover plants.

What do you guys think about :

Riccia Fluitans
Baby Tears
Dwarf Hairgrass
Vesicularia montagnei 'Christmas moss'
Cryptocoryne parva

Sorry for all the posts also. I think of things as I go along.

:)

I have used Dwarf sag and tenellus. Parva grows too slow, hair grass only slightly faster. I have not tried the others.

which tank?

I have used Dwarf Hairgrass and love it. I may try to get some more when I get serious about scaping my little 5.5g It's tedious as all hell to plant, but it looks beautiful and grows well. I had it in a 20g long with about 2wpg T8 6500 dosing ferts and a little DIY CO2.

moss carpets can be quite messy.
crypt parva is a slow grower.
baby tears/hemianthus micranthemoides need a bit of light to hug the substrate. dwarf baby tears/hemianthus calitrichoides needs a pretty fine substrate and decent light to the bottom of the tank. many folks need co2 for it too.
riccia will be quite the mess everywhere unless you're diligent with keeping it rounded up. it doesn't root/attach to anything, each plant is only one tiny/thin leaf and it will constantly float to the surface, in the current, etc..
dwarf hairgrass gets quite tall and will need trimming to control height in a smaller tank.

these are the negatives of each plant as i see them. if this is definitely the group you want to choose from, i'd suggest choosing the lesser of the evils.

for example;

if you can find/afford enough crypt parva to cover ~1/2 the area your looking for densely and you want low maintenance, it's a great option.

if you like fussing over your tank every day and just want something to cover quickly then riccia is a good option. get it, float it until it's adjusted to your water and dense enough to cover most of the area you need, tie it on to some knitting canvas and sink the whole matt using rocks as anchors at the corners.

i would suggest... with all of these... if you're not so confident how they'll grow for you... to put a small, makeshift terrarium together to grow a bit terrestrially on the side. this way, if it doesn't work out in your tank you still have some later to try again once you get a better hang of things. just keep the soil wet and the terrarium covered to keep the humidity up and they'll all grow quite healthy and like the weeds they are.

warning: if you try terrestrial growth... hm, hc and riccia will all look like they're dying for the first couple weeks if they came from aquatic growth. DON'T LET THIS FOOL YOU! if they're kept moist and humid they'll come back with a vengeance in no time and grow like mad.

here you can see crypt parva, red root floater and riccia growing emersed...

here's a closer look...

here you can see hm (baby tears) and hydrocotyle sibthorpioides growing...

here you can see glossotigma elatinoides on the first "shelf"... behind ficus pumilia 'rikke'

there's also a little hc and bolbitis fern growing in there. :dance2:

My hairgrass never got taller than 1.5" it looked like a perfect little lawn at the front of my tank.

I have xmas moss I just let it attach to something in my tank. I don't try for a carpet. Something you haven't that I use for a carpet is microsword.

The "easiest" carpet would probably be the DHG. C. Parva is lovely but grows pretty slowly. And Riccia (attached to rocks or mesh) will need regular maintenance, not to mention a good amount of light & maybe added co2. Christmas moss would look prettier attached to some wood (due to it's growth). If you can find it, erect moss could be a pretty neat "carpet", but I don't know it's requirements. Baby tears needs fairly high light to grow vertical (versus just up like a normal stem).

Another thing to consider is that some fauna may possibly disrupt your carpet (cories/loaches, brigg snails). My c. parva lost a lot of it's root system... my cories' nuzzling got it floating and I'd have to replant every few days.

Nice pics, Dun!

Sorry for not responding back to all the posts guys.
Thanks to all who posted something back.
I guess I'll be holding off on the ground cover plants till I can get better lighting and maybe some DIY cO2.
I just wanted something to help spruce up the tank a bit.
I added some plants I got from Petco the other night when I got my last Betta.
They were in her tank.

Here are some inspiring photos I found on Google of Java Moss.
Makes me want some!!!!!
[ I made the collage btw, the photos I found searching on google :) ]
