GROWTH ON ROCKS

There's a Brown growth on my live rock that looks similar to a thin spider wed with bubbles under it and some of the growth looks like brown hair thats growwing just from live rock. Does anyone know what this is and if its a problem.

It does sound a bit like my algae but a picture would help.

it could be just a brown diatom algae bloom..would really need a pic to confirm though...

As CPD said above, never think your being bothersome, we are all here to help in anyway we can...

Why not go ahead and buffer that ph up a little to 8.3? Also, turn off the lights during your cycle to retard the growth of the algae until you can get enough snails or hermits to take care of the problem.

yea the ph could go a bit higher but the algae is normal and will most likely go away after the cycle. it is either diatom growth or cyanobacteria(slime algae).
