gsp biting

My gsp's behavior is almost like he is teething. He keeps going to a corner and chewing/biting on the black plastic on a standard tank on the rim. He's even bit some away and is working on the sealant, any idea?

Just gave him some shrimp yesterday. I'm running low on snails, I may go try and get some from some local LFS this weekend though.
 
It's common for puffers to chew on things. Be sure the cord of your heater isn't exposed to his teeth. Plastic isn't good for them to eat either & can get stuck in their digestive tract.
 
Use a cuttlebone to let him destroy
 
Yup. You'll usually find cuttlebone in the bird section of pet stores. At mine, it's 69 cents for a piece of cuttlebone that's about 8" long by about 2.5" wide. I've never tried this with a puffer, but I know my snails appreciate it, lol.

I'd say your best bet is to cover the plastic with some sort of decor so he/she can't get to it.
 
He's verging on 4 inches. I feed him raw frozen shrimp (dethawed in mineral water as i've seen you suggest in other postings) from the supermarket, clams, oysters. I feed him snails about once every week, but i'm ordering a hundred to set up in a tank and breed like i did b4 but had to shut down for a bit (will typically feed a few snails every other day once i have it up again), and i feed ghost shrimp once every 2 weeks
i try to get him to eat frozen krill but tends not to care for it
any other things i should look at?

hmm i tend to think of him as a him...i guess its just easier then calling it 'it' since i don't know the proper gender, anyone else do this?
