Just got this 3-4" from the LFS. they labelled it as a blue acara but it's got some orange on the tail and the stripe is more horizontal. Opinions?

That's what I was thinking. I'm thinking it's a female since there's not much of a hump and shorter trailers on the dorsal fin. Most male GT's show those by the 3-4" size, don't they?

I'm going to go out on a limb, and of course i'm probably wrong, but I think it might be a blue acara. The reason i'm thinking this is because of the blue spots all over the side of its body. I don't think green terrors have these, except for the blue lines around their mouths. I used to have a blue acara several years ago, and they mostly do have vertical bars as the other poster mentioned. However, there were times (particularly during water changes, or if I turned the lights on too soon in the mornings) when the vertical bars would disappear, and the black spot on its side would sort of stretch horizontally along it body side. It's also kind of hard to tell from the pictures, but i'm not seeing any orange band on its tail fin, which blue acaras don't have (at least mine didn't). AFAIK they only have the orange band on their dorsal fin. They do have a sort of reddish orange coloration in their tail fin, but not a distinct band.

Here's a picture of the blue acara I had a few years ago: http://www.aquariacentral.com/species/db.cgi?db=fresh&uid=default&ID=0195&picture2_page_view=1

For comparison, here's a picture of my green terror that is roughly about the size of your fish:

anyway, that's my two cents judging from the pictures. Can you post a clearer and maybe a little more close up picture?

The coloration on the tail is a faint fringe of orange, being thicker at the bottom. I'll try to get a better pic. The band may come in more when the fish is less stressed, I only got it a couple days ago. Wynn said his acara had coloration like mine when it was freaked out. We'll see.

I have to agree with NatakuTseng and say that it's a GT that you have

Based on the newest picture you posted, i'm still thinking it might be a blue acara...mostly because of the blue spots on its sides, which i've never personally seen on a green terror before. I don't have a huge amount of experience with either fish though, other than the one blue acara i've had before and the two green terrors that I've had for a few months. If NatakuTseng and Candycat21 both agree that it's a green terror, then they could very well be right. :)
