Guppies and Goldfish

So I've had my 72 going for about 7 months now I currently have 3 goldfish 1 ranchu and 2 orandas, and way too many guppies. Originally i introduced the guppies because my girlfriend really liked them and i knew many people had success keeping the two together in a pond situation. I keep the tank at 76 degrees, I know its on the higher end for goldfish and the lower end for guppies but both seem to be happy, the tank is also heavily planted and I do 30-40% water changes weekly

the tank seems overstocked now that the guppies have multiplied so many times, but both species seem to be living happily together. Are there any unforseen dangers im overlooking in this situation? Has anyone else had success with this combination?
 
well the pH seems to be at a steady 7.4, i would really like it to be higher, but i've tried everything from buffer to coral and nothing seems to make a difference, my tap seems to be a little on the softer side, I've cut back from a heavy feeding schedule to grow the goldfish, to a medium to light feeding once a day. Ammonia is a steady zero, there's no nitrites, and there's a trace of nitrate since i dont gravel vac to provide better substrate for the plants

no need to mess with the pH, it's absolutely fine.
 
Your pH is fine, don't mess with it.

The temp is not too cool for the guppies, they are fine at room temps, down to 70 or so. They are not actually tropical. I have wild type guppies in with my fancy goldfish in my heavily planted 75. I also have axolotls and they seem to be keeping the guppy population in check.

im in the process of trying to get pics up since i recently broke my digital camera, but they will be up soon, thanks for all the feedback

your axolotis never bother ur goldfish? r there other species that would get along peacefully with the goldfish while keeping the guppy population down?
 
There is very little interaction between the goldfish and axolotls.

There aren't any fish I can think that would keep the guppies under control but still do well with the goldfish.
