Hi All,
I learned something late Saturday Night. I wanted to feed my guppies, but got in later than usual. Normally when the room the tank in is dark, I turn the room-light on for about 15 minutes before I turn on the tank-lights. This night, I turned the tank lights on immediately.
I looked in on them a few moments later and noticed some guppies like on the gravel showing distressing signs (breathing heavily, swimming but dragging along the rocks). And the others seemed to be in a drunken state where they kept ramming and hitting the glass wall of the tank and the rocks at extremely fast seeds.
Initially I thought something must be wrong with my water. So I got on the internet looking but couldn't find anything. After about 10 minutes of frantic searching, I looked in again and noticed everyone was swimming fine.
Turns out it shocks the guppy a lot and messes with their mind somehow to go from deep black to bright light so quickly.
Anway, I wanted to get this up here, I couldn't find anything about it in my time a need, so hopefully this will help others if they notice their fish acting similarly. It is scary to watch your fish at a dead run hitting the ground and the glass.... over & over.
