I just got three guppies about two weeks ago, when I started my tank. They are very happy and the two females are already growing a belly and the black spot is darkening. I have a few questions if anyone could help me. My tank is a 12 G Eclipse something, something, one of those that come in a kit. I also bought a heater, so the water is nice and worm for them. Now my problem is that when the babies will come they will be eaten by the moms or the dad, so I need some suggestions. I can not set up an extra tank because of lack of space, so I would like to try to have some babies in this tank, but I am worried that even if they survive the mom and the other two fish they will be swallowed by the filter system. So, should I divide the tank and put many plants in the half where I am going to have the moms? But what about the filter?
If someone could help me... I don't want to become a breeder, but I'd hate to have them die
Thanks

get some good floating plants, or some other tpe of plant that allows the guppies to seek shelter in. Mom, dad and other female will probably eat most of them as a snack anyway--but a few should durvive if provided a hiding place.

Another thing you could try is a breeder net. The babies don't have as much space but it should do until they get big enough not to get eaten.

I have the same tank :) just put in a bunch of plants, especially java moss (suitably nicknamed 'guppy grass') and the babies will hide in them. this wont save everyone but will help save a good number of them.

congrats on becomming a fishy parent!

My guppies have babies and the babies just stay in a dense part of the plants. We watch them. They are really instinct smart and hide whenever other fish come around, etc.

But, if you want to be positive nothing will eat them, get a breeding net that sits in the aquarium and catch them once noticed and put them in it. Although I never do this because they are so small and in the plants hidden so well that I dont think I could even catch them if I wanted to.
