My poor little guppy! He was in my qt tank, I just got him on Friday. Twice I've resuced him inside the filter.

This morning I woke to find him (or just his body) on the lip of the output of the filter. His tail and face were gone.

The only other fish I had in the qt are the 3 new julii cories.

1) Any prevention to keep fish out of the filter?
2) Do cories typically eat dead fish (which I am hoping he was dead when they decided to snack on him!!!!! :( )

fish that end up in or stuck to the filter are usually weakened or sick fish anyway. You can slow down the intake though if you feel better doing that by placing a sponge filling over it or a nylon piece.

The cories and any other fish will often eat a dead and decaying fish if left in the tank.

Hey Dangerdoll - I just wanted to clarify, he did not get stuck by the intake but rather by the outflow area. Which I don't think you can block in anyway. I keep looking at that area and he would really have to jump in it against the flow ...

I was asking because I was thinking the sae thing Mgamer and being that she's already disputed this saying that there's no way possible because the fish was always on the side toward the tank instead of the back side, I would have suggested that maybe her filter cartridge was not pushed down all the way or perhaps it swam over it if it was pushed down below the water level.

I'm thinking a guppy would not make it through the impeller, even partially intact....sorry for the visual.
