It can be planted or floated. It's not a traditional top water floater. It will suspend it self.

Najas is basically a floating plant that will anchor itself with a few roots wherever it happens to come iinto contact with the substrate. With or w/out rooting it will fill the whole tank just like the picture. My 30 long looked like that before I purged the Najas. A sandwich bag full will fill a 10 gallon tank in a matter of weeks given decent growing conditions.
