I have a female guppy I recently acquired that's lips look white and crusty. It doesn't look cottony, just crusty. I just noticed this today and have had her for 2 days. No other fish in the tank has this problem or any other, everyone else seems fine. The guppy's mouth has been staying open all day and hasn't seemed to close shut, and the guppy is acting lethargic. Does anyone know what meds I should use? I had a male guppy that had this same problem a month ago in a different tank; he died the day after I initially noticed the crusty appearance on his mouth.

You've had a fish for only 2 days yet you introduce it already to your older fish (assuming)? Not a good idea. Next time quarantine for 3-5 weeks!

I'm never good with guppy/fish diseases. I pray for the best and when nothing goes wrong, I pray that nothing does go wrong. ;)

Not everyone has quarantine tanks.

I saw some fish today with busted lips. I wonder if your fihs has a starting form of fungal infection. Also, are there any cichlids in the tank? Ive seen some that use their mouth to fight and that might have caused a problem or something.

I honestly never qt and have never had a problem! I'm very picky with where I get my fish and try and make sure they're visibly healthy. I know I run a risk still yet! :headshake2:

The tank is a 20H with several female guppies, most are all adult, a german ram pair (which I just put in the 20H yesterday, taken from my 46g), cories and snails. It is possible that one of the rams (probably the male) was stressing out this one particular guppy by quarreling with her.

I moved the female guppy to a five gallon I just cleared out today and have dosed the tank with maracyn 2. I have melafix but wasn't sure if it'd be strong enough. I can do a wc to get rid of the maracyn and dose melafix at half strength if it seems like a good idea to you guys.

maybe from eating certain foods
