Hagen Mini filter as DIY Can filter

Problem with maintaining it is intake/output don't have an easy way to detach them. This means you have to remove the entire unit from the tank (dripping all the way).

I just have a sponge and the rings that came with it.

is it very easy to custom fill the toms mini? like, get some filter floss and maybe some different biomedia? and can you get any accessories to go "in-line"

also, what the heck is a "lily tube" i keep seeing mention of them. but what are they?

I think the 501 has a better water path design than toms
I have a 501 and I really like it! I used my left over Eheim media here's a few pics how of I set it up...

I have a few toms. they are finicky but nice filters. I agree the azoo has a better water path, and the weak point on the tom are the intake and return barbs, especially the "flow meter" which really just clogs up. I usually remove them when I get one. It's not hard to substitute media in the tom, I run foam and ceramic noodles. I agree that detaching the hoses that come with it is a pain, but I use regular tubing, and never detach them. Eheim style quick disconnects would be ideal.
