Gakk!! I cleaned out several big clumps - seems they appeared overnight - and now I see some growing on the sides of the tank for the first time! This is a semi-planted tank: a beautiful Java fern - growing new leaves, feathery shoots and babies like crazy, one anubias, also sending out several new leaves, two vals with one runner baby each and several new leaves. Dose 1/week with Flourish. I think sunlight/room light is my main problem as I definitely don't overfeed - once a day and they go 1-2 days in the week without. Any other ideas??
Thanks

Thanks for your reply Richer -
25g, ammonia 0, nitrite 0 pH 7.6 - 7.8, about 77 temp, GH 14, 50/50 actinic PC 13w, no CO2 (no real way to do this -constraints of the tank). The problems I think are the room: 22' x 15' w/ 24 4' standard fluorescent bulbs and the 40sf of south-facing windows. Tank is set back about 8 feet from the windows (which have mini blinds some times closed sometimes not). Do you need more info? I can do a nitrate if I HAVE to..:)

Looks to me you got a lot of light on this tank. With high light tanks you need to go with CO2 injection and regular fertillizing (refer to the sticky thread at the top).

CO2 shouldn't be too difficult with a tank your size... I've managed to inject CO2 into a 15 gallon tank, I don't see why you can't do that with a 25 gallon neither.

If you want to get rid of your algae problem, you're going to either need to relocate your tank to someplace with less light, or you're gonna need to convert your tank into a "hightech" plant tank.

Thanks for your reply - I figured that was the problem. We're having 80/20 film put up right now, so that should help. Here's a link to what kind of tank I'm dealing with:http://www.fishtankstore.com/aquariums/bubble.php. (the double one) The tank is on the stand pictured (amazingly stable) and if you haven't figured it yet, is in the middle of a waiting room! Is there some way to use CO2 without leaving it attached? This is a pediatric practice:D and the kids WILL mess with anything they can touch.

I'd like to try more plants and hope you can give me some ideas:)

Glad you see what I'm up against as head fishkeeper! The carbo-plus looks like the choice:) I may have to figure out some sort of box to keep the controller hidden - these stupid stands have NO doors - if anything goes wrong with the electric supply, I WILL have to take the tanks down:eek: and if that happens I believe I will have custom stands with DOORS built!

sigh.....KH.....another test kit to buy......hopefully, with as hard as our water is around here, the KH will be up to the GH! How high do you suppose it will need to be for the carbo-block?

Thanks for your time!

duh...if I go high-tech plants, I'll need alot more test kits! Are any of those as annoying as the nitrate test???

I find the Hagen Phosphate kit to be a pain in the behind to read. It's one of those where you decide what shade of blue you have.

If you're not overdosing the tank, the different shades are so close together it'll drive you insane. At least, that's my experience as a newbie.
