Behind you!
ok so i have a 40 gal tank with 6 black skirt tetras, 8 zebra danios and 2 black mollies. as far as i knew my tank was fully cycled (no ammonia or nitrites) then about 5 days ago i added 1 ropefish and 2 days after begun salt treatment for ich (2 tsp per gallon). and now my ammonia is climbing, it was .50 the last 2 days and now is 1.0!! ACK why is this happening i keep having so many friggin problems. anyone know?

cycling took about 3 weeks i was doing partial water changes to keep lvls low and before 2 days ago ammonia/nitrite were at zero for at least 2 weeks.

The addition of the fish would have increased the waste load beyond what the bacteria bed could process. Adding salt--especially if done quickly--can impact the bacteria, but seldom would cause a serious problem. Any other changes? Was the tank seeded? Any other treatments?

NitrAte level?

my nitrAtes are really low between 5-15

i dont know if my plants would make a difference

also i did the salt treatment over 2 days slowly as described in the ich article.. they dont seem to be rising fast, but they are there.
