i've been checking around on these guys and found conflicting information: some have said these guys have a distinct pecking order, others have said they're very peaceful and school nicely... any experiences? if they do have a pecking order, is it vicious like the tiger barb pecking order? i took my tigers back to the LFS because they kept fighting - nasty little guys - and i want to replace them with a peaceful, colorful schooling fish for my planted tank. it's 46 gallons, has a BN and 4 yo-yo loaches. what have been your experiences with harleys?
 
I have (6) in my aquarium. They are great little fish! School nicely and never bother anyone else.
 
good to hear! the idea of a big school of colorful fish has really grown on me lately. do you think a school of about 15 would be ok for my current set up? 46 gallon tank, planted - about to be more heavily planted - with 1 BN and 4 yo-yo loaches
 
I couldn't recommend these guys any higher! I have 8 right now in a 120 gallon and they are so fun to watch, in hindsight I wish had got more of them and less of the black neons, but it's all good!
 
yeah i have a couple of these and agree with what everyone else has said, hardy, colorful and never pick on anyone else.
 
I have 6 in a 30 gallon. They seem very peaceful, they don't bother my other fish or eachother. Also, they seem very hardy. I had heard that they can be picky about water quality, but mine have lived almost a year now, so unless my water is perfect for them then I guess they aren't THAT picky.
 
thanks for all the opinions everyone! i'm definetely going to start building up a school of 12-15. they should look lovely in my planted tank :)
 
I would suggest one thing. Harlequins are really nice - no problem there, get some. I would also suggest either rummy noses or cardinals. Harlequins will occupy the top 1/3 of the tank and cardinals/rummy noses will occupy the bottom 1/3.

Personally, I would get 6 harlequins and 6 rummy noses. Rummy noses are much better schooling fish than cardinals.
