It's not wrong to discuss aquarium products here.:) However, might I suggest you check your water parameters first especially your phosphates before you try this product? What algae problem do you have?

i sued a similar product - no results

theres a variety of things that can cause algae, its all about balancing the tank really

my story, if it helps:

sa biotope heavily planted with amazon swords
occassional root tabs
dosing excel now and then, floursih and floursih iron
flow was ok

what i changed

substrate to eco-complete as swords are heavy root feeders
rinsed out my filters to improve flow
one dose excel in morning, one in afternoon
one extra water change per week for 4 weeks
stopped using fourish and fourish iron
added an extra light over the tank - up to about 2 wpg
more careful feeding of fish
added 10 more plants

in summary thought more carefully about needs of plants and matched better to encourgae more growth

algae is nearly clear now...bba used to cover entire back wall and 50% of plants!

I agree. What are you parameters like? Lighting (what kind and how long)? Co2? Ferts? Knowing phosphate would help as well...

Usually algae can be solved by fixing any of these "problems" without the use of chemicals...which can do more harm than good.

Algone does nothing.....It claims to help with your nitrates, but Nitrates are something that people worry too much about.... check your Phosphates and then do the things for your tank that you can control once you start adding chemicals to the tank......It's an up-hill battle to control things you can't control. use nature to your advantage.

This goes for ANY ecosystem we recreate.

Provide the things that nature gives the ecosystem outside....that they don't get inside and only deal with the things that you should and can control.

Clean the glass if you need to, avoid putting your hands in the tank as much as possible, and let it be an ecosystem like it's suppose to be let the tank adjust to it's self.
We don't wait for the tank to do what it knows to do. We run and panic and check and check levels and add chemicals and the tank has to start from scratch again.

Water in nature moves and circulates (Power head, water changes)

Nature is a natural filter and feeder ( Filter system, Plants, and Food)

Nature has the perfect sun (Lighting system)

You provide this things from the wild that it can't get inside.... and let the tank and the fish do the rest.... They know what to do.
Take ALL things out of your filter and put just "Filter Floss" in it, This picks up the chunks that nature takes out, Change this often.
Use a power head and blow the junk out of the substrate for the filter to pick up. Check you home's water instead.... Fix that first. That can Help U too.

LET THE TANK DO IT"S THING, PLEASE...8-)

You don't just run to the pharmacy every time that you have an ailment do you? you provide the things that nature made for your body that u r not taking enough of (food, water, even light and filtering your body for a few days)
In nature there are no tanks, so U have to provide the things mentioned above. That's all.
After u feel better Leave your body alone!! after you provide the things that they don't have inside....leave your tank alone!!
Then enjoy your tank....... isn't that why you started it to begin with??
PS
ALGONE DOES NOTHING........At least it's one of the more harmless things you can do to the tank. you can just put a tennis ball in your filter....It would do the same thing as Algone. 8-)

Sorry to ramble but I learned this the hard way and after killing a lot of fish.
You don't have to..... There is a place for chemicals, but why use them if you don't have to. Plus you enjoy your tank more and spend less time measuring levels, and spending your money on things like Algone.....I sure did.
Should have bought more fish or should have had a V 8-)

Please keep this thread on topic. If you have never used this product how can you discuss if it works or not? I have used algone and it thought it worked reasonably well. However it is costly and IMO an aquarium can look just as good with out it.

I'm really sorry,:lipssealedsmilie:
I didn't mean to go off topic.
I just get very passionate about the theme. I need to pay attention to that.:coffee2:

sorry:lipssealedsmilie:
