Ok, so my fiance' has gotten into the world of fishkeeping. She purchased some "flourite" it's like dirt for your tank so that you can plant, plants. She purchased it at Petsmart. It hasn't really settled in the tank and all and it's just dark and murky. Any comments?

Thanks,
David

yeah, flourite is used in planted aquariums. it does make the water murky when you put it in, but it clears up in about a week

Flourite is baked clay. Before putting it in it should be rinsed really well. After you put it in it will still cloud the water and should clear, as legendary frg stated, in a week or less. Water changes should help this progress just be careful not to disturb the fluorite to much when adding water back to the tank. The tank will cloud whenever the fluorite is disturbed, however it should clear quickly. I have a fluorite only substrate in my 75 g tank...can make a mess temporarily.
