Actually even fancy goldfish are quite hardy, so in a bigger tank, constant water changes and a good test kit, they may stress a little but will survive it just fine. Ojnce you get it set up we gotta see pics! =^-^=
I agree with the the above poster shoe. Goldfish are quite hardy little fish and should do fine through your cycling with good water changes. I also agree with MsJ that a good liquid test kit is key to your tank health. It really is worth the inital investment.:welcome:
Yeah, whether you want to or not the tank is going to cycle. I guess it is up to you to decide whether or not you want to put the goldfish through the stress of cycling the tank (sensitive to ammonia, nitrites, and eventually a nitrate spike) and hope they make it or go the route of returning the little buggers and fishless cycling the tank. Either way, Msjinkzd is right..........a liquid test kit is a life saver (or should I say a fish saver) and if you do go with fishy cycling be prepared for lots of water changes if you want your fish to make it. good luck and welcome to AC!
you should! that's what we're all here for. to help one another and learn from our experiences. one day, (likely soon if you stick around) youll be posting up to someone else who doesnt know much about cycling, and giving the same good advice.
I just brought home my new 75 gallon tank with Fluval 404 filter...I have some questions about what to put into my 4 media thingies. I have access to a bacteria filter and gravel from my little 10gallon which has been up since july.
I may have done a few wrongs according to some but it all worked out well for me (Im a new tank owner myself) Ive had a 15 gal w/a betta, guppies & mollies it for awhile but they are all sturdy guys. The Angels are new for me.
I have a 35 gal hex, put in the grass (from a current in-use tank) & gravel, got a filter from my mom that had been used in one of her tanks, put in a little Jungle Start Right & let it run for 2 days. Then I added guppies. After 4 days I added my Betta. Then when I was at 9 days I added 2 Koi Angels & 2 Albino Corys.
I think it helped that the filter & grass had been in another tank & had built up its own 'stuff'.
