Healthy fish V. Sick fish

If money grew on trees, I would order my fish online.

"As for medications -- salt is usually my first line of treatment"

I've never added salt to my tanks. I only have table salt, will that do? How do I add it?

Usually ich takes longer than a week to cure, so I would try the salt and heat method according to the article in the article section. If it is not cured correctly, (and often when it is) secondary infections are pretty typical, which sounds like what you might have going on now.

oh, sorry, forgot to mention, the ick fish died a couple days after starting treatment. But I will read up on it anyway for future reference.

So just dealing with the swollen gill at the moment which now has a bit of white stuff hanging about the edges....so I am guessing this is internal parasites for sure.

Even if the fish died, it was still carrying the parastie so treat the tank anyhow.

The fish that died possibly infected the entire tank and there may be ich in the gravel. You cannot remove it with vacuuming. Read the article on the ich cycle. Ich may show up in your tank again if you do not go through the entire treatment.

roan is right :) !! Ich exists on the fish and in the tank, so your other fish might not be showing outward signs. And the gill might even be due to ich. It is often present in the gills for a while before it spreads and shows the tell tale "salt" looking spots

Ok, just read the article, looks like I have lots to do for ick prevention. In the mean time, do I wait until tomorrow to buy better parasite med. or do I treat the internal parasites causing gill swelling and oozing right now with the Tank Buddies Parasite Clear that I have on hand?
