Healthy fish V. Sick fish

I actually might try the salt and heat first... If you still have ich and its a possible cause of the gill swelling that would be alot less stressful on the fish than a med would be. Maybe someone else will chime in on that, but that is what I would do.

I think my ropefish will be ok with the heat. Does anyone have any input on heat with the gouramis?

The only fish you need to worry about are scaleless and cats. Loachs, corycats, suckers, etc.,. and it's the salt that would affect them if at all. My otos are salted with my betta right now and they're fine. Don't worry about the heat. You need to kill the ich and that means treating the entire tank including the fish.

Why don't you list all your fishes so we can double check for you? It'll make you feel better about doing it.

I might be wrong, so someone please correct me if so. But aren't internal parasites in the intestines and gut? They shouldn't have anything to do with the gills.
Ich are external parasites, not internal.

I understand that Ich is external, but the tank buddies she speaks of are for treating internal parasites.
Sorry, I misunderstood your comment -- thought you were referring to the parasite itself.

That explains why it didn't help at all :)

The tank I need to treat has gouramis, a rope, and a snail. If the snail cant handle it, I can deal with that.

I dont know where I got the idea it was an internal parisite, but I suppose the gill is external isnt it.

Well, it is 9pm, my daughter is finally asleep, the kitchen is still a mess, but the fish come first, so it is time to go do the salt thing.

Keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck with future purchases as I have had such a run of bad luck.

Well...slowly working on salt treatment. Was able to add salt twice before bed time lastnight. Will add it two more times to get it up to 1.5 teaspoons per gallon but cant start until I get home from work at noon. Over night, I got the temp to 82*, but I think it will go up higher, I have it cranked, but the cord is not long enough to get it close to where there is lots of "current".

Will update tonight.

Does anyone know about how long it takes to see an improvment?

I started treating Jakers' tank last Saturday. Today is day 6. The ich started to drop off him on Tuesday (Day 3) and, as of today, all VISIBLE ich is gone. He is, however, still flashing and I believe there is still ich present, probably in his gills.

Although I have dropped his heat down to 82 (he's a betta, so that's not much more than normal for him) because there are otos in the tank as well and I don't want to stress them *too* much. I will continue salt treatment until day 14 as was advised by Dave.
