heart transplant

um ..no and i dont know any one who has ,...you dont need one do you? i hope not!

The recipient of the heart will be on immunosuppressive drugs pretty much for life, but the dosages will go down over time. The person would have to be VERY careful about possibly being exposed to lots and lots of illnesses, even ones that aren't such a big deal for the average person.

I've not known anyone that had a heart transplant, but I was married to guy that had kidney disease and got a transplant. It's a pretty major deal.

My best wishes are in place...

well here is the story. early this year in February i was deadly ill  with an unknown virus that did a number on my heart. the virus weakened my heart causing it to become 3 times the size of a normal heart and making it have leaky valves and not pumping well. a normal heart that is 100% healthy can only have a pumping capacity of 50-65% which is know as an ejaction fraction, mine is at 15%.

When I went to the hospital i was so bad that they had to put in a ballon pump that would help pump the blood b/c my blood was just sloshing back and forth due the size and leaky valves, after about 4 days of this, and many test (ex-rays, echos, ekg, nuclear testing, and mri) i was put on the stable list and remove from the ballon pump. from their i spent about a week and a half on the heart floor and then released, but before i could go the doctors noticed extra beats in my heart and decided to put an internal cardioverter difibulator in me (which has not shocked me, but has paced me from time to time due to low heart rate).

now im home with 12 different medications i take everyday, no biggie, i am doing well, you couldn't tell if i had i problem now, but at my last doctors visit i had to go in for testing to see if i had good lung pressures, i guess this tells them if 1) they can do a heart transplant and 2) if they can does it have to be a heart-lung or just a heart. For me its just a heart. I am not on any transplant lists as of this point, but things have not changed since it all began.

and thats my story.
