Heater inside external filter?

Is this okay? I just got a new filter since my other one died on me, and with my hood only the filter fits on the back. Can I put the heater inside the filter?

I personally wouldn't. I'd expect it will displace media, and possible allow water to flow through unfiltered; Not to mention potential problems with the power cord.

It would work, but I'd say it would be too risky to bother.

I have done it before with success but it does take up space that can be used for media.

What size tank and what type of hood? I've never heard of one that wont accommodate a filter and a heater.

All you should have to do with a heater is feed the cord underneath your hood. Should not be a problem unless you have a very peculiar setup.

I'm an idiot. It actually fits quite nicely. Just had to push the filter over a tiny bit...please ignore my ignorance!

I've done it before with no problems, but its always been when I've been running an oversized filter like an AC70 or 110 on a 10-29g tank.
