hey guys! i need some help!!! i have a 55g salt tank, it's been running for about 7 months. in this tank i have a princess parrot that i rescued, two pink damsels, a lantern basslet, a mandarin goby, a lawnmower blenny, a tomato clown and an army of crabs. approx. a week and a half ago my fish started rubbing themselves on some of the larger shells in the tank and "flashing" (i guess thats when they rub and you see the bottom of their body) anywho from everything i've read it seems like they have some sort of gill parasite. my boyfriend and i have tried a number of things to fix my fish. we've used maracyn, coppersafe, and rid-fungus (it's supposed to help with the dinoflagellates and in one of the books we read it said it had something to do with that) right now they are in my quarantine tank which is only a 10g where they are being treated with coppersafe (i can't put it in the main tank because of my live rock) they can't stay there much longer because they are starting to stress but we can't think of anything else to do! please if you have any suggestions let me know, we'd really appreciate it!
thanks

how long have you been treating with maracyn?
how long have you been treating with coppersafe?
how long have you been treating with Rid-Fungus?

Were the above all done seperatly, or being used in conjunction with eachother?

To reduce the stress levels, you could go and buy a large rubbermaid container and move the quarantine into this as that is a hugh ammount of fish to have in a 10gal tank, which i dont think can be helping matters at all..

yea that would all help.

the maracyn was used for a week in our regular tank and then the fish were moved into the 10 so that they could be treated with the coppersafe and the rid-fungus, that has been added to the 55 and 10 and they have only been treated with that for about 4 days. yeah i know that the ten is crowded but i didn't know what to do with the fish since i can't treat them with coppersafe in the main tank since i don't want to kill anything in there. as far as using a rubbermaid container are you saying move the 10 into it and have it running from in there? do i add water to that too? i'm not trying to sound stupid but i haven't heard of that before. also on the main tank we did a 50% water change once the fish were out. i don't know what else to do! help!!!
thanks guys

yeah, put some fresh mixed saltwater in there, at the right temp, and move everything into that, then you have a nice larger container which should not stress the fish so much really...

once you have run the mediacation in the display tank for 5 days ( think its 5 days for maracyn ), i would run it for a day with some activated carbon in there to remove any lingering traces....

Move into a rubbermaid and then treat if needed...Are you sure its not white spot (Ich) they have?

Hi Ems :hi: It's Lindsey.
These guys have helped me a bunch with my new setup. They should be able to give lots of good advice :)

yeah i'm positive it's not ich, they don't have anything on them that you can see; i wish it was ich, that would be easy, lol! it's definitely something with their gills because they keep rubbing their gills on the shells. i'm going to try using the container that's an awesome idea, like i said i haven't heard of that before. do you think i should keep treating them with the coppersafe, so far that's the only thing that has helped, they still "itch" but not as bad.
thanks, emily

p.s. hi lindsey!!!!

well, as i am aware, its a 14 day treatment with coppersafe...i would run to the end of the 14 days, then stop and see how they get on with that...

Niko
