Hi guys..just setting up my first saltwater aquarium. It is a 20 gallon that will eventually be the home to a pair of clownfish and perhaps a coral or two. I put in 20 lbs of tonga live rock this afternoon in order to start the cycling process. My question is, what are that branchy brownish/purplish things on the rock. There are two of them.

My setup consists of a 20 gallon tank, aquaclear 30, the 20 lbs of live rock, 50 watt heater, 130 watt coralife powercompact setup with acentic/10,000k bulbs, and a powerhead with a rotating nozzle for circulation (as well as test kits, salt mix, RO water, etc.). I may be ambitious enough to try an anemone in the future, and at that time I will add a small protein skimmer. Am missing anything?

looks cool! I do not have your answers, but how did you get the power head to stay in place with out the under water gravel filter intake?

The powerhead came with a mounting bracket (with suction cups). It also has a rotating output nozzle to create a wave effect. It seems to work pretty good.

Im no expert but it looks to me like a frag or hard coral.
