My bettas were as easy to get to spawn as my convicts, however, the fry are another matter.
Usually you need dozens, if not more (sometimes more than 100), of jars to house males in, of which need daily, if not 2X daily water changes. Then placement of the fry is another issue... you'll be lucky if you get 10 cents in credit per fish from your LFS. Then, the fish you worked so hard to raise and put so much time and effort into will probably end up in a bowl and die a week after you sold them to the petstore... or they'll sit on the shelf and still suffer horrible water conditions. Very few will end up in an appropriate set-up and die happily of old age.
Personally, it's not worth it to me. I'm sorry to be so gloom and doom, but it's the way things are.
