Ok, so I am looking around, exploring my options on trying to build a fairly decent computer as cheap as I can. Currently I am working with this motherboard, AOpen MX46-533V. However, while looking around I found this board, Asrock K8Upgrade-VM800 Socket 754. Seems nice since it will upgrade to socket 939 if I ever want to, and it takes the same type of ram as the board I already have (which is also nice, since it would cost the same). My brother said he will buy my board if I want to get that one, so it wouldn't end up costing much more. Seems like the way to go to me. One more thing, is that board compatible with the AMD SDA2600BXBOX SEMPRON PALERMO 2600+ 128KB L2 CACHE SOCKET 754 processor? If so, I think I know what I am going to do. I don't really play games, so this should do me for quite a while.

AFAIS, they are compatible.

Yep, they seem to be. The reason I wondered before I posted is because I thought I read that the processor I am considering runs at 1600mhz fsb, when it really only appears to run at 800mhz fsb. That board only supports up to an 800mhz fsb I think (before being upgraded to socket 939). Picked up a 256mhz stick of DDR400 (PC3200) ram today to get started, and my brother should be picking up the board for me next week. Then I'll just have to get the processor. I got an awesome deal on the AOpen MX46-533V board that I mentioned in my first post. Got it (though it is only socket 478) for $25 and the guy threw in a 1.7ghz celeron processor for free because it had a bunch of bent pins that he didn't want to straighten out. Of course in the process of them being straightened out, one broke off. So now since I have to buy another processor anyway, I might as well sell that board and upgrade to something better. This seems to be just about the best value for the money for the budget builder, with the ability to upgrade to socket 939 sweetening the deal.

I decided to keep my socket 478 board and work with it, I'm tryng to make this as cheap as possible. Picked up a 400 watt power supply yesterday, so now all I need is to pop a processor in (which I still have to purchase) and it's ready to go. I have a total of $95 in it so far (some new parts, some used parts, free case from my brother), so the cheap factor is working out well. I think I may play the waiting game and see if I can find a used processor. If I have to buy new, I found a site where I can get a 2.13ghz celeron for a little under $50 before tax. I can overclock it up to 2.8 or so. My best computer before getting this put together is a socket 370 with 600mhz celeron cpu and 192mb of pc100 ram and it handles everything that I want to do, but it needs the motherboard replaced. I don't play any newer games or anything so I don't need a powerhouse.
