mg: I have a female betta sorority tank. Originally, I was trying to condition them to breed. After deciding against it, I tapered down their feedings and fed them like any normal betta that I wasn't trying to breed. All of a sudden they are now HUGE. They're around 2", while last month they were only 1". They also seem to be quite round and fat. I don't know if they're full of eggs, or what, seeing as I haven't been feeding them enough to get fat. I feed them bloodworms, or sometimes tuberworms. Any ideas? I'd like to give them a diet that is healthy, not turn them into obese eating machines. :help2:
Are the scales sticking out any? Is the poo normal, is the white egg tube visible?
I would lower their food intake, avoid tubifix and dried worm foods. Also, a bit of salt and one day a week no food.
Pictures? It could just be that they have grown, which can happen pretty fast in a tank with breeding conditions. Also, are they acting normal? No erratic behavior?
They're all acting normal, the have normal bowl movements, all scales in tact, all egg spots showing. I can't seem to get a clear picture of them (as usual) because they're all swimming normally and playing with the plants and toys. Also, all the food I feed them are the frozen cubes, so they are already portioned. I usually skip one day a week on feeding.
Since you wanted to breed them, they could be full of eggs. But being full of eggs to many times and no breeding might lead to problems. I lost two females to this when the males refused to play along.
I agree that they should be fasted for at least one day a week. Also those cubes can be cut in half with a razor blade if you think they are getting too much.
