Has anyone had a fish where his tail fin split right down to the base where the meat meets the fin? (The meaty part may have also been wounded) What I want to know is if anyone has seen this in a fish, did it return to normal or was it split for the remainder of its life? It is a fish I am thinking of buying and there is only one and there is no chance of another being imported. Any help would be appreciated.

TIA

do a salt dip a couple times a day until it heals up fish get ripped fins some times it it's not a bacterial thing it will heal right up

if it's bacterial do the salt dips too should clear up if it hasn't ina week or so i'd put him in a quarantine and treat it with the appropriate mardel med.

I've had fish with split tail fins heal back up, but sometimes it doesn't look exactly the same after healing. (Kind of like a scar) It didn't affect the fish's ability to swim of anything.

I have had fish with ripped fins, but this is different, it has gone right to the meaty part. I am looking for someone who has seen this find of wound heal.

my dojo had his caudal fin ripped right down the middle, it healed up by itself though, and if you look at it now it looks like nothing happened.

my advise still applies any wound on a fish is helped by salt dips

and wounds that don't heal quickly enough can get fungal or bacterial infections

until someone answers who's seen your exact case i'd still do the salt dips
