I would just be honest with her and say that this is going to be an adults only reception and apologize for not making it clear on the invitations.. As a mother myself, I would completely understand and as her being your friend, she should completely understand.
Typically when I get invitations to things if it doesnt say bring your kids or isnt addressed to the whole family, I pretty much know not to take my girl. So, dont let this upset you, or really think to much about how the other persno will feel, after all thsi is YOUR time and you have a right to have it exactly how you want it.
You may awnt to check around with others you have sent invites to to be sure they arent bringing there kids too..
