Hello All,
I want to know can a 20g tank make a good lil salt water tank or would a 29g be a better start? I have a 20g that has freshwater fish in it going to get a 55g or bigger lil later on down the road and would like to know...
If a 20g would work how many fish could i put in it? What are good things to put in the tank i have a black background thinking using sand and maybe getting a coral or something would love to get some clowns and maybe lil more fish that would get along together just a idea for now...would love some suggestions plz.
Here's a look at my 20g....

First, lots of research.

A 20 can work for SW, but it's more maintenance than a larger tank will be. I'd stock with just 1-2 fish, both smaller fish that will not get to more than 4 inches. Corals and such require higher than standard lighting--again, reearch!. Background is fine, sand is preferred.

Yup, lots of research and self searching if you have a tendancy to not be able to say I can't have anymore fish etc. Then by all means go with a larger tank if your talking fish only no corals etc. the cost really isn't all that much higher. Really it's cheaper when you consider the long term records of over stocked tanks . IME most people do overstock their first tanks ,"me included."
Welcome to salt water!
