Help on my starting fish tank.

Do you want planted or unplanted? What type of fish interest you(goldfish, chinese barbs, etc..)? Why do you want to go into coldwater?(I'm just curious, LOL, not criticizing, I have a love of goldfish. It can help to plan your tank if you have specific motivation.)
What type and how many? Planted or unplanted means live plants or plastic plants. Please keep in mind that comets/feeders get up to a foot long.
I would say skip thinking about the plants right now and focus on what you need for the tank.
You say its a 30 gallon. Are you positive on the size? Dimensions?
You said their feeders, which are the ones that can/will get 12" long.
What kind of filter do you have?
Do you have water test kits?
Do you have water conditioner?
How many goldies do you have and how big are they?
Is this your only tank?
Do you plan on having any other fish besides the goldies?
Theres many more questions but to get some help from the knowledgeable folks here some questions must be answered by you.
