Hi all,

Today I notice in my 38G planted tank there are several extremely tiny white bugs. They move pretty fast on the glass and are jumpy (flea like). Are they parasites? (they are so tiny I don't think I could get pics). I also notice today there are 6-7 tiny snails as well. The plants were put in about one week ago, I have the following plants:

Green hygro
Sunset hygro
Jungle vals
Wisteria
Ruffled Sword
Cryptocoryne Petchii
Dwarf Sags
Cabomba
Rotala Indica
Watersprite

Habitat: Bumble-bee nerite snails. No fish

How could I kill the parasites while preserving the plants? My substrate is pure Eco-complete. I hope I don't have to dispose them all.....

Thank you all in advance

There are many organisms in any aquarium that aren’t visible to the naked eye. You just happen to have something big enough that you can actually see. Neither your jumpy bugs nor the planaria are parasites.

A couple possibilities, look up pics and info:

Ostracod – approx 1 mm long, chalky white to yellow, movements range from a slow creep to rapid bounding or scurrying

Cladoceran (water flea) – the most widely known are daphnia but there are many other kinds – jerky movements

Thanks for the reply. I added salt and raised temperature to close to 90F. Seems to have gotten rid of the planaria.

But the other tiny white bugs (crawls on the glass, sometimes bounces, seems to have a split-end tail) are still there. Since I can't id them, I guess it's better to get rid of them. Would I be able to do so using a Parasitic Medications like Prazi-Pro or Clout, while keeping my plants alive?

Thanks
