My boyfriend just called me to tell me that our blue tang has turned pale and is swimming around in circles (to the left only). She was perfectly fine last night and nothing was noticed to be out of the ordinary this morning. My prediction is that she has been stung by one of the anemone in our tank. What happens when the tang is stung? Can she recover from this?

lol....

I was just about to post this....

tank had a small water change done yesterday... (more of a top off really)

current params:
Nitrites 0
Amonia 0
Nitrates less than 10ppm
PH currently 8.1
KH is 7.5

I've removed the tang from the tank and isolated in a Quarantine tank using water from main.

its only a 5gallon... with a HOB filter and heater.

I'm off to work, so I hope things will be ok when we get home.

incidently.... there's 8 other smaller fish in the tank, and they've got no issues from what I've seen.

how long does it take for a tang to recover from an anemone sting?

Hello, first off try not to worry to much, the change in color is normally a reaction to being scared or shocked.
Just let the Tang recover in maybe turning the lights off and keeping the room quiet.
hth

I think putting a Blue tang in a 5G may do much more harm than good. That is way to small for that type of fish.. they stress out so easily and will make themselves very sick just by being in such a small QT tank.

She is now worse that she was this afternoon. She is laying on her side on the bottom (no swimming at all) and breathing heavily. Is there anything at all I can do for her?

Yeah sorry to say but the fish is really stressed out. Unfortunately, blue tangs do not like being confined to small spaces. Why I do not understand would you put the tang into such a small tank is beyond any comprehension. Hope it pulls out of it. It may be a very bad thing because when they stress they succumb to diseases instantaneously.
