I am in process of setting up a 55g as a cichlid tank. Need advice on my
filter. I'm taking my siphon overflow from my saltwater setup to put together a sump (10g). In this sump I plan on having a section with a bag of ceramic beads from a Aquaclear 110 Power Filter, and probably just carbon in a media bag between a set of baffles. A majority of the sump is dedicated to top off since I hate mineral deposits that develop on the rim in the display. Anyways, will that be adequate enough or do I need to beef it up a little bit?

I'm not much of a DIYer, but off-hand I'd suggest the first layer to be filter floss. Carbon really isn't needed unless you need to remove meds, chemicals, or odors. Mechanical filration first (and you can go nuts with that... floss... sponges... microns... oh my!), then bio.

That's right :grinyes:
