I have a black shark who has out grown his little tank. I would like to put him into my 55G which already contains 2 7" Oscars, a bunch of botias and 3 Tin Foil Barbs. Can I do it? What should I do to make the tranition possible?

Thx for the help

I absolutely plan on upgrading the 55, but in the meantime (1-3 months or so), can I put him in there?

I'm a new owner to black sharks and am no expert, but have been doing a lot of research. Black sharks are pretty agressive, particulary with their own kind and fish that look anyway near like them. I have tried a lot of tank mates for my B S, and only have success with small tetra, barbs and rasporas. As i have read and experianced, they don't mind small tank mates, but do not like bigger fish.
Mine has bullied/attached: cory cat - half his size, large sword tails and platies, 2 A.sajicas, algae eaters, tiger barbs, and a pleco.
Granted, mine is only about 5" and is in a 25G tank with 6 small gold tetras (going into a 55G next month). Had it for about 2 months now, but have been learning and observing as much as i can on these cool fish.
I don't think you should put your B S in your 55G. How big is it?
Also hear it takes a long time for them to reach adult size. I have noticed mine growing slower than i thought. Eats well, nice and plump but hasn't put on much length since i've had it. How long have you had yours and what size is its current tank?

The problem is 2 things. One like the last poster said black sharks are aggressive and small tanks only make things worse. Yes oscars are cichlids, but for the most part they are only semi aggressive at best. Second Your 55 gal tank is already overstocked. Adding anything elese is just going to make things worse. Oscars and plecos are very high bio load fish. Even with excellent filtration you water quality is going to degrade rapidly. You should be doing water changes twice a week as is with that kind of bio load. Finally A black sharks can easily hit over 20 inches when fully grown. Oscars get 14. Your 55 is only 12 inches wide. In my opinion adding the shark to the 55 is very bad Idea. The oscars are already to the point where their growth could be stunted.
